Built on real shop-floor experience.
Fabricor's roots are on the shop floor: sweeping floors, cleaning up after the machinists, and learning by asking questions and watching how the work was done. That start led to work as a saw operator and welder, and then a machinist.
The first shop had no CNCs, so four years were spent cranking handles on manual machines, a skill still used today. When staffing thinned to just two people, the shop's first CNC lathe was learned and run straight from the manuals, well before resources like YouTube existed.
That hands-on work was paired with full-time study for an Associate's degree in industrial tooling and technology, so as much was learned in the classroom as on the floor.
At every step, something new was learned and put to use, and that's what makes Fabricor well-rounded in the CNC manufacturing environment.
Career path
-
Shop floor start
Started by sweeping floors, asking questions and learning from experienced machinists.
-
Saw operator, welder and manual machinist
Four years of cranking handles on manual machines.
-
CNC machinist, fixture designer and IT support
Moved into CNC while working and studying full time.
-
Tool and die shop
Started as a CNC operator, learned CAD/CAM on SurfCAM and BOBCAD, and moved into the design department as a programmer.
-
Tooling and special machine design
Designed tooling, fixtures, special machines and weld fixtures.
-
Process engineering, aerospace
Learned GD&T, and programmed and ran complex CNC on 3–5 axis mills and mill-turns.
What I can help with
Manual and CNC machining
From four years on manual machines to complex 3–5 axis mills and mill-turns.
CAD/CAM programming
Part programming with CAD/CAM software, including SurfCAM and BOBCAD.
Tooling and fixture design
Tooling and workholding designed by someone who has also run them on the machine.
Weld fixtures and special machines
Fixtures and machines designed around the job they need to do.
Process engineering
Process planning for complex parts, backed by GD&T and CNC programming experience from aerospace work.
